CFL Star Tyrone Jones Lands on the DNR

Scoring Update! The points change, death remains the same...

Tyrone Jones, a linebacker who helped the Winnipeg Blue Bombers capture two Grey Cup titles during his eight-year tenure with the CFL club, has died. He was 46. Jones, who starred at Southern University, died in his native Georgia on Tuesday morning. He was diagnosed with brain cancer in August 2005.

"This is a very sad day, however we need to remember and celebrate the person of Tyrone Jones; the player of Tyrone Jones and the human being that was Tyrone Jones," said Bombers president Lyle Bauer, a former teammate of Jones. "He made a huge, huge impact on this football team and this league."
Congratulations and 18 points each awarded to Haaaave You Met Dead? and Dead Place. The Rosters and Standings have been updated.

Tyrone Jones, A Few Yards Closer to the End Zone

It seems like only one week ago, when someone on BestDeathPoolEver was causally observing about Tyrone Jones:

“I don't see how this could be worse.”
Well then, someone on BestDeathPoolEver, I think you have poor predictive powers. No. Allow me to restate: I think you have very poor predictive powers. You are like Miss Cleo and Tyrone Jones is Missouri. Why?

Because it’s worse.

Jones has been sleeping in his hospital bed round the clock while the tumor in his brain is spreading its toxic infection:

"He's on heavy morphine," said Darla Gerbrandt, the Winnipeg cancer survivor who befriended Jones during his last visit to the city where he played eight seasons with the CFL Blue Bombers. "I spoke to his sister and he's just resting. He's been non-responsive to them."
Jones remains in the Sunbridge Care and Rehabilitation Center, proving the old adage: “The only thing worse than living in Canada is dying in Canada.”

Jonesing for a Fix to Tyrone's Cancer

Background: Tyrone Jones is 46, and a former star player in the CFL. But he's seen better days.

"On a scale of one to 10, I'm a four," he managed over the phone yesterday...

Jones, 46, was given six months to live -- and that was three years ago...

The cancer has disfigured the left side of his face, causing partial paralysis...

"It made the side of his face cave in... He doesn't eat, because the way his face is turned, he really can't chew. And when he swallows, he chokes."
I don't see how this could be worse. Then again, he was a CFL player. If he was an NFL player who had to rely on their sterling care of retired players, he'd probably be dead by now.
