Without further ado, we are proud to bring you the third installment of this heart wrenching series. And now for Part 3, the conclusion of A Very Special JWISA...The Homecoming!

John Wooden, who was on the bubble about where he would be after his hospital season ended, was selected to move on to a rehabilitation center. This year, Wooden, despite many challenges has kept his 97 year living streak active:

"Dad had one of his better days today," his son, Jim Wooden, said in a statement. "He will do exercises two to three times daily. As soon as his strength is back, we will get him home." Wooden said his father wanted to thank everyone for their kind thoughts and the many get-well cards he has received.

No word yet on whether blogs count as "get-well cards" or whether BestDeathPoolEver can be categorized as kind thoughts. We hope so.

John Not Yet Wooden; The Beat Goes On

It wasn't so long ago that John Wooden led the UCLA Bruins to seven championships in a row. He did it with determination, fundamentals, and Bill Walton. But mostly, he did it with heart. Heart is still the key to his success, and six days after a fall at home, his doctors have altered his medication in response to an irregular heartbeat.

How is the 97 year old coach doing?

"Dad looks better today than he did yesterday and he isn't as drowsy from his pain medication," (Nan Muehlhausen, Wooden's daughter) said in a statement. "His appetite is better today and he was up and around for about an hour and a half."

Wooden's teams once had an 88-game winning streak, and he is currently in the midst of a 97 year life streak. This change in medication proves once again that great coaches make the adjustments necessary to continue for success.

John Takes a Spill on the Hard-Wooden Floor

Each fall, college basketball coaches evaluate their team's talent in preparation for the upcoming season. Each fall, ex-college basketball coaches must evaluate their health in preparation for the rest of their lives.

John Wooden remained hospitalized in good condition Saturday, having undergone blood transfusions after the 97-year-old UCLA coaching great broke two bones when he fell at home. Wooden broke his left wrist and collarbone Thursday night. His wrist was in a cast Saturday and his arm will need to be in a sling when he leaves the hospital, his daughter said.

"Dad has had a couple of blood transfusions because the doctors found he was anemic, but the transfusions will take care of that and Dad will be fine," daughter Nan Muehlhausen said in a statement. "We expect him to make a full recovery."

Through it all, Wooden remained in good spirits. This is surprising to us since we know that truly great teams never fall at home.

Wooden Focused on Personal Health and Wellness Coaching

Former coach John Wooden still remarkably attends UCLA's games. He's aided by a cane and his daughter to maintain his stability. But the attention the coach gets from the crowd is affecting him.

UCLA is asking fans to leave former coach John Wooden alone during home basketball games. The 97-year-old coach is a popular draw at his seat behind the Bruins' bench, with people forming a line to get his autograph any time he shows up.

The "no autographs" request was announced Wednesday by UCLA at the request of Wooden's family. "It all wears on him," UCLA spokesman Marc Dellins said. "He just wants to be able to come and enjoy the games."

In accordance with one of the rules listed in the DP literature, it would be unlawful for any DP participant to attend a game and to harass Wooden. If we can prove that this autograph request ultimately led to Wooden's eventual death, all of that participant's points for the entire year would be declared invalid.

John Wooden is resting at home after being released from a hospital. The 96-year-old former UCLA coach had been hospitalized since Sunday. Wooden's daughter reported he is "doing well" and he is thankful for people's thoughts, prayers, cards and notes.
