Little Rascal Darla Gone from Our Gang

Former child actress Mollie Mae Gottschalck Barron, who appeared in a number of "Little Rascals" films, has died at a Pascagoula, Miss. hospital at the age of 87.

Barron, a native of Brooklyn, N.Y., who died Wednesday, was one of the girls who portrayed the character "Darla" in "Little Rascals" movies, according to her obituary. The daughter of two vaudeville performers, she landed the role in "Little Rascals," which was also known as "Our Gang," after another child actress became ill. Barron made two "Rascals" films, including "The Haunting Ghost," and several short films during the mid-1920s.
Barron later became ill with chicken pox, lost her hearing and suffered a broken heart courtesy of Alfalfa.

The picture is not Mollie Barron, but Darla Hood, the only actress to play Darla in the Little Rascals films. Darla was strictly in the talking pictures, from 1935-1940, whereas Mollie claims she was in the series in the mid-1920s.

Mollie Mae is full of it. There was only one Darla. There is no record of Mollie being in any of the Our Gang films- so if she WAS in them, she was an uncredited extra. That picture IS of Darla Hood as Dobie66 pointed out. Darla Jean Hood passed in 1979.
