Rep. Julia Carson, the Indiana congresswoman who announced last month that she had been diagnosed with terminal lung cancer, died today. She was 69.
“During her time in the House, she was a powerful advocate for the people of Indianapolis, and for all working families throughout our great nation,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said. “In recent months, Julia Carson faced illness with her characteristic courage and dignity, and in our sadness, we are reassured to know she is now at peace.”No word on whether Carson died on the floor.
Carson is the fifth member of the House of Representatives to die this year.
